Arkona is a folk / pagan metal band from Russia talking about Slavic

mythology and Russian folklore, created in 2002 in Moscow. The band

was founded by Maria « Scream » Arhipova and Alexandre « Warlock »

Korolev based on their music tastes and ideologies. In the beginning, the

name of the band was “Hyperborea”, and it was changed a bit later by

“Arkona”.

At the end of 2002, the band recorded a demo of 3 tracks named “Rus”.

After many concerts, most members lost interest in the band

and stopped. So Arkona disappeared…

But Maria maintained the band alone at the beginning and then with the

help of the band members of “Rossomahaar” for the record of the

first album. In April 2004, “Vozrozhdenie” was released and recorded with

“Sound Age Production”, like the previous demo.

Then Maria kept up the momentum to write more songs and in

December 2004, the second album was out, named “Lepta”. This album

is in the same way as the previous one, just as good, and the members

of “Rossomahaar” officially join Arkona.

During the summer of 2005, the band recorded its third album, “Vo

Slavu Velikim”. For this album, they performed with members of the

bands “Alkonost” and “Svarga”, and with “Vladimir Cherepovskiy”.

In 2007 “Ot Serdtsa K Nebu” was released, the fourth album of the band,

it’s their last collaboration with “Sound Age Production”.

The year 2008 was a turning point for the band; their first collaboration with

the label “Napalm Records”, even if the first album recorded by the label

was out in 2009. The fifth album is named “Goi, Rode, Goi”, this album

has marked because of the song “Na Moey Zemle”, a Slavic saga of 15

minutes, in collaboration with five bands: Månegarm, Obtest, Menhir,

Skyforger and Heidevolk.

In May 2011, the first EP of the band was released, named “Stenka Na

Stenku” was intended to make the wait for the new album. So in August 2011,

a new album called “Slovo” came out. For this album, a chamber

orchestra and a professional chorus were used.

The seventh album is named “Yav” and was out in 2014. This time with

guests from “Turisas” and “Sviatogor”. Later, the band published a

balance sheet for 2015; a total of 87 concerts in 32 different countries

were done during the year.

Their next album is named “Vozrozhdenie”, released in November 2016.

It’s a re-recorded version of the first album.

The last album of the band, for now, is “Khram”, released in January

  1. This album gets a bit closer of black metal with the aggressive

lyrics and the black and white cover instead of colourful covers.

Arkona is one of the biggest references of Russian folk / pagan metal,

with its epic lyrics and melodies from the past. The band has

done nine albums for now; we hope there will be more in the future.
